Unit of Inquiry

The classes have watched some excellent videos about how and where we get different food products.  Did you know that oranges are sprayed with a gas called ethylene to help them ripen? And that rotten oranges are not wasted but used in some cattle feed.

We also looked at the changes that some foods goes through as they move through our food system. Children should be able to discuss something about the process of harvesting, processing and distribution.

This week year 3 classes produced some wonderful ‘food art’. Some classes also plotted the journeys of their food from different countries onto a world map.

Maths

This week children were writing algorithms to direct a BEEBOT successfully. They had to use their skills of estimating the distance and also the turns required to travel through a maze. They also learned about coordinates and how to direct the BEEBOT to the position of objects on a grid.

Literacy

The children have been learning to take notes from the food videos to improve their comprehension and note taking skills. These have been used to create flow diagrams relating to the food systems. They will then use the information gathered to create google slides and present these in small groups at the end of the unit.

Have a peaceful and long weekend

Kind  regards,

Year 3 team.
