Yr3 Weekly Update - 02/24/17Population changes have an effect on people and the environmentAttitude: Curiosity Learner Profile Attribute: Knowledgeable Approaches to Learning (ATLs): Analysis, Dialectical Thought Concepts: Change, Causation, Perspective Unit of Inquiry This week we were treated to a talk from Year 1 teacher Mrs Austin who has lived in Hong Kong all her life. She showed us photos of when she went to KJS and we learned that the old school used to have only two floors. She also showed us photos of the old airport compared with the new airport. Probably most surprising was the picture of Tung Chung which was once a marshland. Ms Austin shared the reasons for these changes. Also this week, Mrs Darling has worked with each class to teach us how to use a green screen app. This will enable us to make exciting videos with Hong Kong as the backdrop. On Thursday we enjoyed a trip to Hong Kong History Museum. Children were able to consolidate and confirm their understandings of changes in Hong Kong. Many thanks to all the parent volunteers. Maths Teachers have continued teaching open maths tasks around fractions of areas and are beginning to look at fractions of collections of objects and placing fractions on a line. Literacy Work is continuing around the text type expositions and children are beginning to connect their writing with our Unit of Inquiry, thinking about whether particular buildings should be demolished or preserved. In reading, children are continuing to infer - one of the skills good readers use. |
