Yr3 Weekly Update - 02/10/17Central Idea:Population changes have an effect on people and the environmentAttitude: Curiosity Learner Profile Attribute: Knowledgeable Approaches to Learning (ATLs): Analysis, Dialectical Thought Concepts: Change, Causation, Perspective Unit of Inquiry Kung Hei Fat Choi from the Year 3 team! We had a very successful trip to Central on Wednesday. The children were able to use old photographs to identify and compare with the areas in which they were standing. We talked about population and reclamation and visited historically and culturally important sites. The children enjoyed the City Gallery and an opportunity to sketch. Many thanks to all the parents who volunteered for the trip. If you are interested in volunteering next week for our Mother Tongue session, please complete and return the slip which was sent home this week. Maths Teachers have started assessing children's prior knowledge of fractions, including fractions of shapes and collections of objects. We will use these assessments to plan challenging lessons for the students. Literacy Teachers have used this week's field trip as a stimulus for various speaking and writing activities this week. Children have been retelling their experiences from the trip through drawing, oral retells and writing. We are beginning to introduce expositions to the children, i.e arguments for different perspectives on a topic, such as “Is television good for children?”, “Which is better: old or new Hong Kong?” This links with our thinking skill dialectical thought - which is the ability to see and understand several different perspectives at the same time. |
