Welcome to Y3! Here are some selfies of our Y3 classes and teachers! We are having a great time on the 2nd Floor! Year 3 Classes from: Top left 3K, 3J Middle left 3A, 3I Bottom 3L The Staff working with your children Here are the teachers who will be working with your students this year! We are all thrilled to be your child's class teachers this year and look forward to all the great learning we will be doing! Transdisciplinary Learning - It's all connected! Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are central idea: Values and beliefs define individuals and communities Lines of inquiry: - Our values and beliefs as individuals and a community. (Form) - Identifying our values helps us make connections with others (Connection) - Understanding and valuing other people's perspectives helps us to develop empathy (Perspective) Year 3 students have been inquiring into the unit Who We Are and have inquired into the positive relationships they have with themselves and others in their school community. To support students with their understanding of the central idea, the children have been inquirers by exploring the definitions of the words values and beliefs. Some students asked experts in the school, others looked in dictionaries and other classes had questions that sparked students thinking and built upon their prior knowledge. The end of the day for Year 3 has been something many of our students have been looking forward to, as it is an opportunity for students to come together, sit with children from other classes and sing a Year 3 chant! Ask your child at home if they can sing it to you! Literacy In Literacy, the students have been working in developing their reading and writing stamina and have practised following the writing process of planning their writing, writing a draft, editing and publishing their work. Maths We introduced maths this year with by asking the question ‘What is maths?' The students found out that everyone has a math brain and that anyone can do maths! This was introduced through exploring the mathematical mindsets which emphasized the importance of learning from our mistakes, developing and exploring new strategies to problem solve and being creative! P.E. Year 3 students have been engaged in fun tasks and challenges to help get to know one another in a safe and caring environment. Mr. Riddell and Ms. Hadley shared their own values and how these influence their actions everyday single day. They have been working individually and in small groups to learn what respectful actions look like and why they are important. Through a variety of activities they are learning more about themselves and their own bodies and characters. we need your help If you have any spare cardboard, cereal boxes or small containers that we can use in our junk modelling area, we would love it if they could be brought to school. Please note to only bring in items that are clean and stain free, as the children will be using their creativity to make things with these objects.
