Yr3 Curriculum Update - 17/01/20Working together to achieve success for every childWelcome to our 8th edition! In each update, the Year 3 Team will bring you snapshots of what your children in Year Three have been up to every 2 weeks. You will see a variety of learning experiences exemplifying learning which is fun, exciting, challenging, innovative and/or creative...and whatever they are, we know that your child has worked really hard to get there and should you have the chance, you may want to share this newsletter with your child to find out the juicy details and discuss the great learning he/she have been doing! Transdisciplinary Learning - It's all connected! Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are Central idea: Values and beliefs define individuals and communities Lines of inquiry:
Throughout the year we are revisiting our Who We Are unit with an emphasis on developing and thinking about our wellbeing. Some classes read Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell. In the book Grandma gives Molly Lou Mellon some advice.Which bit of Grandma's advise do you relate to? - and what could you do in your life to follow this advice? “Walk as proudly as you can and the world will look up to you.” “Smile big and the world will smile right along with you” “Sing out clear and strong and the world will cry tears of joy” “Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too” Many children could relate to the advice about believing in yourself. Here are some of our responses: “Challenge yourself to try something new. You don't know if you don't try” Archer “Be nice to yourself” Tia e.g. notice what you have done well, eat healthy foods “If someone says something rude to you, just ignore them and believe in yourself” Chloe Literacy In writing we have been writing our own school reports thinking about what we enjoy at school and why and what learner profile best describes us. We have also been considering the skills we have learnt this year. I bet you can't wait to read our reports. In reading we have been noticing what we think as we read. We read a book in a small group and as we were reading were thinking about what goes on in our heads when we read. We have identified that we ask questions, we think about what the characters do and say and how the characters feel. We also think about words we don't know and try and infer what they mean. We might reread the sentence to see if we can work out what the word means. We will continue learning about specific strategies we use to comprehend what we read. Maths In Maths we have been thinking back to the place value we learnt in term one. How confident are we ordering numbers in the thousands? We have chosen numbers to make with equipment and have been practising reading and writing numbers. Can you work out what numbers are being modelled here? Could you write the number using digits?
