Yr2 Weekly Update - 06/16/17Where we are in place and timeKnowledge of family history helps us understand the connection between past and present Unit of Inquiry It was museum, museum, museum this week with all the classes visiting the History Museum to experience different historical eras in the Hong Kong story. Just as important was the opportunity to use some inquiry skills and techniques and to take the opportunity to notice the many different ways used to record history. We found the following: Photographs Paintings and drawings Models Artefacts Writing Video Audio Simulations Interviews Costumes Literacy Most of the writing work this week has focused on our Personal History inquiries. We are busy getting things ready for Thursday when parents can come in for assembly (1.30pm to 2.10pm) and then a Personal History Half Hour (2.15pm to 2.45pm). Mathematics We have been checking up on all sorts of maths this week. Shapes, multiplication, subtraction, probability and even a bit of data handling and measurement. The probability has been interesting, and connects well with data handling. Here is a home challenge: If you throw two six-sided dice, which number is the most likely to come up? Can you use data collection and display to show why this is the case? It's tough, but it's fascinating too! Clue: Try organising data in a similar way to this.
My conclusion: When throwing 1 six-sided dice all results have the same chance of coming up. |
