Yr2 Weekly Update - 06/09/17

Where we are in place and time

Knowledge of family history helps us understand the connection between past and present

Unit of Inquiry

We spent a lot of our time communicating with our parents and grandparents through email.  This let us find out information about the olden days from primary sources.  We also learned how to search on the internet by using smart keyword; words like kids, history, education, school, leisure, changes and Hong Kong.

We have also been experiencing some items from the past in our shared area and even trying out pastimes that our grandparents took part in, such as sewing.

Literacy

We have been working on perfecting our sentences this week.  WE know that you need a capital letter at the beginning and we have learned about using a full stop to end a sentence, but did you know that you can also end with a question mark or an exclamation mark?  It's true! See!  Did you see those?  And again! Oops!  This could go on forever … (that's an ellipse, by the way).

Mathematics

It has been all about addition and subtraction this week.

It turns out that they are connected!  Seriously.

If you add 4 to 6 you get 10.  Ok. Then in you take 6 away from 10, guess what, you get 4!  It works every time!

Also, if you ask yourself, how do I get to 10 and 20 from a number, this happens.

From 14 to 10 is take away 4 …

From 14 to 20 is add 6 …

Take the 6 and the 4 and add those together, you get 10.

Again, it works every time.  Try 16. Back 6 to get to 10, on 4 to get to 20, 6 and 4, 10!
