Sharing the Planet
Plants Sustain Life on Earth and Play a Role in Our Lives
Unit of Inquiry
This week the children were very busy planning their trip to the Flower Market. They worked in groups to decide what kind of plant they wanted to get and how it would help us in school. On Wednesday the children visited the Flower Market and worked with their group to buy plants within their budget of $60. The children had great fun and were able to explain clearly the benefits of the plants they had purchased. All of the plants will be placed around school, based on the children’s plans, and the students will be responsible for taking care of them and ensuring they remain healthy.
Many thanks to all of our parent volunteers who helped out on Wednesday!
Literacy
We have been planning our own stories using story planners and story maps. The students have also been retelling familiar stories and discussing different story elements, the characters, setting and structure, beginning, middle and end.
Students have also been researching the benefits of plants and taking notes about the ways in which plants help us, in and outside of school.
Mathematics
The children have been exploring capacity, estimating and measuring. We have also been learning about arrays, multiplication and pattern through square numbers.
Hats, Sunscreen & Bug Spray
It has suddenly gotten a lot hotter in Hong Kong. Can you please ensure that your child brings their hat to school EVERY DAY! It is school policy that students wear a hat at both lunch and playtime.
It is also a good idea to put sunscreen and bug spray on your child before they come to school. They are not allowed to apply it themselves and should not bring it to school.
Dentist Visits
You will be receiving a letter to inform you of your child’s upcoming visit to the dentist. All children who have returned the form will be seen by the dentist. On this day your child should bring their toothbrush and their dental booklet with them to school. The booklet will be returned that day.
