Yr2 Weekly Update – 03/03/17
How the World Works
Forces affect objects around us.
Inquiry
This week we looked at Fair Testing and what makes a test fair.
We decided that a fair test is one in which only one thing is changed and everything else stays the same. For example when we made our paper planes, we brainstormed the following ideas that we might change in order to conduct a fair test.
- Number of folds
- Size of the plane
- Mass of the plane
- Add paper clips
- Shape of the wings
- Add more wings
We focused on Scientific Inquiry Method to help us with our critical thinking. We have specifically try to become better at drawing conclusions.
Some classes used push and pulls to sculpt action figures inspired by artist
Alberto Giacometti.
Literacy
We continued to work on procedural and informational writing. Some classes read and followed instructions to make some friendship bracelets and fish art. Some classes looked into pronouns and worked on how to use pronouns properly in their writing.
Some classes looked at how to make writing come alive by adding wow words. We read lots of books and generated a huge bank of words to help us write better.
Maths
Students continued to work on understanding the concepts of part-whole and equal sharing as they relate to quarters and halves.
Important:
Thanks for sending in the stuff for junk modelling. Please keep that going. We have had a couple of glass and metal containers sent in and these pose health and safety problems. Please send in plastic and cardboard items only.
Action
A big well done to Emmy Hodes who has won a first prize in an under 6 years piano competition on 26th Feb 2017.
