Yr1 Weekly Update - 23/9/16TD Theme: How we organise ourselves Central idea: To function as part of a community people take on different roles and responsibilities. The Year Ones have shown that they are excited to be back at school after a long weekend! The students have demonstrated that they are remembering classroom routines and have really settled into their recess and lunch-time play with the rest of the school. The buzz on the children's lips this week was the LEAP van (Life Education Activity Programme) parked in KJS! The children got to go inside and learn how to make friends and how to live a healthy lifestyle by identifying important body parts that help us breathe, think and pump blood. Maths In maths the children are practising counting forwards, backwards and finding the the missing numbers in number lines up to 100. We are starting to use thinkcharts that help us to gain various strategies on what we know about specific numbers by writing the number before, after and using all kinds of math manipulatives to display our thinking! Literacy In literacy we have started to look at our writing hexagons to help us understand that we use writing to convey a message and are working on matching our pictures to our writing. We have also further explored rhyming pairs and finding other words that rhyme by creating our own rhyming books. Unit of Inquiry This week we have started to find out other communities we belong to. We are starting to explore communities we belong to outside of school as well as our own classrooms. We are using the learner profile ‘principled' to discuss how we should accept responsibility in all that we do at school and home. We have discovered that we have lots of jobs at home and at school that are very similar, such as tidying up after ourselves! A few kind reminders to:
