Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

This week, Hong Kong once again demonstrated how quickly the weather can impact our lives. The red signal towards the end of the day on Tuesday allowed us to test out our protocols. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff and the site team for their swift actions and dedication in ensuring our school community's safety.

We had the PYP Exhibition this afternoon, and it was fantastic to see so many parents come and witness the amazing work our students have produced through their inquiries, research, and actions over the past 10 weeks. Your support and encouragement truly make a difference in our students' education journey. I must thank all staff but in particular the Year 6 team for their hard work throughout this process.

A special thank you to the parents who joined us for the Q&A session yesterday regarding the proposed timetable adjustment. Please remember that we have two more sessions scheduled for next week on Tuesday 4th June and Friday 7th June, starting at 8:30 am. You can choose to participate either face-to-face or via Zoom. In the meantime we will share a FAQ document over the next day or so that highlights the questions and our responses from Yesterday's session.

Have an enjoyable weekend

Mr Gavin MacGregor

Principal

Refund of Year 6 Camp Fee Balance (Year 6 Students only)

Near the end of the school year, we will refund any unspent camp fee to Year 6 students before they leave KJS.

After deducting all the expenses, the balance is stored in each student's eWallet under the Payment System. Parents are required to submit an online request through the system on or before Sunday 9 June 2024 in order to receive a refund cheque.

●     Refunds will be made by crossed cheques in HK dollars and distributed in June 2024.  Parents will be notified in due course.

●     In addition to a refund request, parents can also choose to transfer the balance to another child in the same family providing that he/she will still be attending KJS in August 2024.

●     Parents can also choose to donate the balance to the school for the purchase of teaching and learning supplies.

●     For those who fail to submit a request, no refund cheque will be prepared and the balance will be donated to the school automatically in August 2024. No further notification will be sent out to these parents.

To learn more about accessing the Payment System, please refer to this website www.kjs.edu.hk/payment. To submit an online refund request, please refer to the section eWallet, Refund & Account Closure on the same website. News from the PTA

Hello KJS Community!

We have many exciting projects coming up next week, mainly our inspirational speaker, Lonnie Bedwell, on 29 May and Transition Day on 31 May for our new Year 1 families who will be visiting KJS and our Year 6 families who will go to visit their secondary schools.

Lonnie Bedwell Visits KJS - Wednesday 29 May 2024

KJS PTA is very proud to sponsor Lonnie Bedwell's talk at KJS on 29 May to some of our students.

Lonnie Bedwell is the first totally blind climber to summit Mt Everest. He is also a motivational speaker, author, extreme adventure athlete and ex US navy veteran.

Lonnie made a connection with a KJS parent last year at the Mt Everest base camp and addressed some of our students via Zoom in June 2023. So inspiring was he that we have decided to bring him to Hong Kong from America to talk to schools and corporations during his stay here. Lonnie will be talking to our Y3-6 students on Wednesday 29 May and it would be so good for the children to have a little knowledge about him before the talk. If you get a chance, please sit and read all about him on his website, Lonnie Bedwell .

Lonnie arrives in Hong Kong on Tuesday and KJS is his first stop in his busy schedule on Wednesday morning. Please spend some time looking at his website so the children will appreciate his visit.

Drake the Dragon Day - Friday 7 June 2024

Drake the Dragon is marching closer to KJS!

Drake will be landing into school on June 7,  and we will celebrate his arrival all day.

Students will be encouraged to come to school in casual clothes in Drake colours (red, yellow or gold). The Student Council, who have written original content stories, will be visiting various classes and giving author readings.

They will also be doing readings in the library. And there will be a few more surprises…

Drake will be available for purchase through an online order and payment form. We will be sharing the form by the end of May for those families who wish to buy them.

Important: For those who purchase Drake, the Dragons will be delivered to your child's classroom on June 7th by our parent volunteers.

There will be no need to pick them up from the PTA Office.

As always, we welcome parental involvement in our projects, feel free to contact us:

PTA Office T: 3765-8709

PTA Email: pta@kjs.edu.hk

PTA Whatsapp: 6211-4154

Have a good weekend ahead!

The KJS PTA Team.

Student Success

Thank you for sharing your child's achievements with us over the past year.

While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student's accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated.

That being said, we encourage you to share your child's achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child's accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community's strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students.
