Acting Principal’s Message
Dear KJS Families,
I have literally just returned from a Y6 session with a visiting author, Jerry Pallotta, who lives in Boston, Massachusetts. Jerry is most well known for his Who Would Win series that is very popular with many of our students. Jerry is 69 years old and still has an incredible amount of passion and energy for what he does after writing for the past 37 years. He shared a lot of interesting information about his journey, inspirations, and the writing processes he uses in a fun and authentic way. As you probably already know, Ms. Lau is very supportive of and enthusiastic about providing our students with experiences that will encourage and support them as readers, writers, researchers, and learners in general, and this is another great example of that. I’m pretty sure that a lot of our Y5 and Y6 students will be writing their own Who Will Win stories over the coming days, so please support them through noticing, listening, and questioning.
Moving ever closer at a rapid pace are our Y5 and Y6 day camps, scheduled for 5-7/12. Mr. Fay has been working very closely with APA (Asia Pacific Adventure) to ensure a challenging and enjoyable series of outdoor education experiences, and we have adjusted some of our locations to ensure full inclusivity for our students. These camps are sure to support the social and emotional development of our students, as well as being challenging enough to build resilience and, of course, a lot of fun. You should have received all relevant details by now, so please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
Finally, please be on the lookout for information regarding a brilliant PTA-funded online cyber safety session scheduled for December 7 at 5 pm. Our PTA has kindly agreed to draw on the very well respected expertise of Susan McLean, who has worked with ESF on multiple occasions to build our understanding and practices around cyber safety.
