We would like to extend thanks to all the parents and students who attended the three-way conferences over the last two days. For those who were unable to attend, we will rearrange appointments in due course. We hope those who participated were impressed by the students and their ability to discuss their learning so articulately. Next week on Wednesday, Nov 27th, the ESF media team will be in our school to shoot a new virtual tour video for our website. Please ensure that students wear the correct school uniform (PE kits are acceptable if it's their usual PE day). This year, we have implemented a more regular assembly program across the academic year. Most classes will have an assembly every two weeks. The aim is to celebrate achievements, focus on the attributes of the learner profile, and allow students to come together to share their work. Last week marked the first of these assemblies for years 1-3, which included a musical performance, students sharing their work towards creating an art mural, and a discussion on the importance of being reflective. A reminder that next Friday 29th November is a school closure for students due to the KJS staff professional development day. Please don't forget that the PTA Winter Fayre takes place on the same evening. We look forward to seeing many of you there and celebrating together! Have a lovely weekend. Mr Gavin MacGregor Principal ECA on 29 November (CPD Day)Please note the after-school ECA arrangement below for 29 Nov: *Zoom for Y6 will be held Student Council MessageDear KJS Community, We have written this newsletter to talk to you about how to support Catherine's Puppies. Catherine's Puppies is a shelter and adoption centre for stray dogs based in Sai Kung. The Student Council visited the adoption centre last week to find out more about their work in helping abandoned dogs across Hong Kong. From November 25th to December 4th, we want our KJS community to donate long socks that are no longer used and balls that are soft and bouncy (around the size of a tennis ball) so we can make recycled dog toys. Please do not buy new socks or balls because we are trying to be more sustainable! You can also donate dog toys you don't use anymore, but they need to be washed if you want to donate them to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria to dogs. We are also collecting donations, as we want to help Catherine vaccinate every puppy that is given to her and this costs over $2000 per dog. This can add up to thousands of dollars every month! You can help by donating a minimum of $20 on Wednesday, 4th of December which will be our Dress Casual Day where students can dress up as their favourite animal! Finally, we also have a festive art competition to celebrate the wonderful work of Catherine's Puppies! The competition is open to ALL students at KJS and starts on Monday, 25th November and closes on Wednesday, 4th December. The collection box for entries will be located in the ground floor School Office. Rules of the Competition:
The winning entry will be used by Catherine's Puppies on their social media pages over the festive season. It will also be featured on the front page of The KJS Times on Friday, 6th December where the winner will be announced! We really appreciate your support in taking action for a worthy cause. Kind regards, Remy, Tanya and Bitz from the 2024-2025 Student Council Library NewsWe are thrilled to announce that our Year 4 and 5 Library Monitors have officially begun their duties in the library! The Year 4 Library Monitors have been actively helping with library lunchtime play, overseeing different areas, assisting students in finding books they wish to read, ensuring the safety of all students, and monitoring behavior. Meanwhile, our Year 5 Library Monitors are also making a positive impact by organizing the library during snack time, conducting shelf walking with one group, and reading stories to Year 3 and 4 students during library lunchtime play. Thank you for your continued support as we encourage our students to take on these responsibilities. It's truly inspiring to see their growth and enthusiasm! While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student's accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated. That being said, we encourage you to share your child's achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child's accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community's strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students. Disclaimer
