This week, our Theatre Club performed 'The Tempest' in the School Hall, while also showcasing fantastic use of our Hall lights and sound equipment. Parents in attendance were truly impressed, and we even had some KGV students join us on Wednesday who were equally amazed. We cannot wait for the next performance! A huge thank you goes to Ms. Jackson for supporting our wonderful performers through the many rehearsals at Theatre Club. Related to performing arts, we are delighted that the Faust theatre company will again be at KJS this time performing for our Year 3 students next week. This is a wonderful opportunity for our learners to experience live theatre in an innovative and interactive way. I wanted to also share that we have also recently developed some comprehensive KJS guidelines to ensure consistency in many aspects of the school day. This information will be shared with parents and will be uploaded on our new website after the Lunar New Year holiday. We hope that you will find it useful and informative. Next week marks our Lunar New Year celebrations, and we are looking forward to the festivities! Please be reminded that next Friday, we will finish at 12pm to allow families to begin preparations for this wonderful time of year. Let's look forward ahead to the Year of the Snake! Tomorrow morning, some of our students in Years 3-6 will participate in the ESF wide cross country event at KGV. See further details below Good luck to all involved! Lastly, a quick reminder to complete our IB Evaluation Parent Survey that was sent out last week, your support is greatly appreciated. Below are the details for the day. The following boys and girls races will be offered;
The day will start at 8:50 am with a course walkthrough for our younger students. ALL runners will be expected to be at the venue 30 minutes before their race time dressed in KJS PE uniform. *This event is designed as a very informal racing opportunity. There is no central timing and therefore no formal presentations at the end of the day. Students can run/race and then leave. With this in mind all students must be supervised by their parents/guardians for the duration of their stay at the venue. If you would like your child to participate as a member of the KJS team please complete the google form attached here. Kind regards, KJS PE Department Student Council News- Food Drive from 20-24 JanuaryDear KJS Community, Our KJS Student Council has organised a Food Drive from Monday, 20th January to Friday, 24th January. This Food Drive coincides with Chinese New Year, a time for celebration, family gatherings, delicious food, and giving thanks. In this special time of year, we aim to donate to a worthy Hong Kong charity, Feeding Hong Kong. In celebration of Chinese New Year and our festivities at KJS next week, we kindly ask as many students as possible to bring something to support our drive. Just one item can help, and together we can make a big difference in the lives of people living in poverty. If everyone brings in just one item of food, we would collect 900 pieces! If you are interested in donating, please check what you can donate and how. You can bring:
Please ensure the expiry date of the food items is within two months. This helps guarantee that the food is safe and suitable for distribution to those in need. Please do not bring expired food, as it is illegal to donate expired food in Hong Kong. So why should our KJS Community help? Every day, more than 3,300 tonnes of food waste are sent to landfills in Hong Kong, while over 1 million people live in poverty, struggling to afford food. The world produces enough food to feed everyone, yet almost 1 billion people are still chronically undernourished. One of the problems is that roughly 1/3 of the food produced every year is lost or wasted—enough to feed 3 billion people. If 25% of that globally were saved, it would be enough to feed 870 million people. The Student Council will also visit Feeding Hong Kong next Monday to see what happens to the donated food, including how it is organised and redistributed to people in need. Thank you in advance for your support. Kind regards, Remy, Tanya, Masie, Kj, and Yau Yau 2024 - 2025 Student Council Library NewsThe Library Team is thrilled to share some fantastic news about our missed edition of Posties—Issue #635, published on December 30th, 2024! We had the pleasure of featuring an article by the talented Karisma Hari from 5EG! Inspired by Elvis (5JO), Karisma wrote an engaging piece about space during library class, and it truly shines! 🌟 This week in our library classes, we've been celebrating Karisma and our other amazing student authors. Plus, I want to remind everyone that KJS Virtual Library (https://sites.google.com/kjs.hk/kjs-virtual-library/home) now has a shortcut linked to the Google Form for Posties submissions! Every week, there's a new featured topic, so students should check the Google Form and submit their articles anytime they want. Let's keep the momentum going and inspire more students to share their voices in Posties! You may notice that many of your children are eager to write during their spare time. The KJS Carnival School Fair 22 March 2025 Plans are well and truly underway for the biggest event of the KJS Calendar, the school fair! There are many ways you can get involved, sign into this Google Form to indicate your interest. Raffles When we return from the mid term break, we will be sending out raffle ticket booklets for our annual fundraising for the school. While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student's accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated. That being said, we encourage you to share your child's achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child's accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community's strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students. Disclaimer
