Acting Principal’s Message
Dear KJS Families,
Last week marked the return of Y5 and Y6 Day Camps, and we were very pleased to see how well our students adapted to the different learning environments. I was fortunate enough to spend a day with Y6 students doing the Bride’s Pool Gorge hike, and it was quite inspiring to be part of a group that embraced the frequent, and sometimes quite difficult, scrambling elements. There is strong evidence that supports the power of environment on human development (epigenetics), so I am confident that, at least some of our students, have revealed parts of themselves that they were not aware of beforehand.
On Friday this week, we will be holding Christmas assemblies at KJS for all of our students. This will be a great opportunity to share some of the cultural aspects of this long-standing celebration through dance, drama, and song. It will be a very positive experience to connect in a larger setting that supports a wider sense of community at KJS.
Our PTA Chair, Ms. Anna Rayton, has been working hard to arrange an external food catering option for families at KJS. Due to lack of demand over the past few years, our caterer is struggling to meet the sudden spike in demand, so it is likely that the service will begin after the CNY break. We will keep you posted.
As I have mentioned before, the move to eating lunch in the classrooms means that we have been able to adjust our school timetable in a number of ways. One of the changes will be an extension of the school day to 2:45 p.m. from 9/1/23. We are currently confirming the adjusted arrangement with the bus companies, and we will confirm the change directly with you via the ESF App.
The KJS Student Council is currently leading an Outdoors Toy Drive to enrich our play resources at KJS. This initiative will run throughout this week. If you would like to learn more about this then please see this short presentation.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and enjoyable winter break.
Dr. Jamie Schmitz

School Dismissal at 2:45pm from 9 Jan 2023 Onwards
Dear KJS Families,
I am pleased to announce that KJS will return to its previous dismissal time of 2:45 p.m. from 9/1/23 onwards. This has come about because being able to eat lunches in classrooms has enabled us to adjust the current timetable to maximise learning and teaching time for our students.
Please note that our bus companies have been informed of this change and will modify their schedules accordingly.
Play Equipment Donation Drive
Dear KJS Parents,
We are hosting a Play Equipment Donation Drive where students can bring in some play equipment from home that they do not play with anymore and can make space for their Christmas gifts!
This drive is being hosted because we have collected feedback from students throughout our school who have said they would like to see a wider selection of outdoor equipment, and we want to be sustainable by reducing, reusing and recycling items!
This donation will be held from Monday, 12th of December to the Friday, 16th of December, the last week of Term 2. The collection boxes will be located next to the office next to the PTA on the ground floor.
Any donated equipment has to be in good usable condition and durable to certain weather such as rain etc. The items that you can donate in the Play Equipment Drive can be outdoor balls, bats, hula-hoops or bean bags.
We ask that you do not donate soft toys, non-weather durable items, sticky toys, dangerous items, books or anything broken. Students can bring in as much equipment as they want.
We hope that your action can make KJS a greener school by donating to our drive!

ESF Happy Holidays Card
Spread some festive cheer this season with our ESF Happy Holidays e-card. This joyful design was created by one of our youngest learners – four-year-old Aadhya Swain, who is a student at ESF Tsing Yi International Kindergarten. Aadhya’s art was selected by our Chief Executive Officer, Belinda Greer, as part of our annual ESF-wide art challenge. “The standard of art submitted this year was incredibly high, so well done to Aadhya and all our talented student participants from K1 to Year 13.” This bright and cheerful card can be downloaded from our ESF website.
