Acting Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, I met with the ESF Engagement (stakeholder) Manager last Thursday. We discussed current and past KJS stakeholder engagement initiatives and processes, as well as the ESF Engagement Toolkit and upcoming ESF engagement opportunities such as the ESF Stakeholder Survey. The ESF Engagement Toolkit was recently launched, and it provides ESF schools with useful guidance regarding engagement steps, engagement tools and platforms, and how to evaluate engagement. KJS will be working with the ESF Centre team to inquire into and try out various ways of connecting with and learning from our stakeholder groups.

On Friday, October 14 the KJS PTA will host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 3 p.m. on Zoom. We encourage you to attend if you are available, as we will share some very important upcoming changes to the structure of our PTA. Another reason to support our PTA is that we hope that we will be able to host more PTA-sponsored events at KJS in the not-too-distant future, and, to do this, we will need more support in general.

Finally, The EDB has issued updated COVID vaccination information to clarify what being fully vaccinated means. I have included the information again for your convenience. As always, please ensure that you update your child's vaccination status through the ESF App if it changes.

A) SINOVAC Vaccine
A.1 Students of any age above 6 months old are considered fully vaccinated if they:

i. HAVE NOT had COVID19 infection and have 3 x doses of vaccine in total.

ii. Are required to have 3 x doses of vaccine but are in the “interval” period for their
3rd dose and intend to get their 3rd dose within 7 days of the interval period lapsing.

iii. HAVE had COVID19 infection and therefore can have one less dose of the vaccine, that is 2 x doses of vaccine in total.

iv. Tested positive with COVID19 infection within 14 days of their first vaccine dose, and therefore do not “qualify” for one less dose and have received 2 x further doses of vaccine, that is a total of 3 x doses.

v. Have never been vaccinated and HAVE had COVID19 infection can be vaccinated 30 days after recovery and must receive 2 x doses of vaccine in total.

vi. Have had 1 x dose of vaccine at least 14 days prior to their COVID19 infection and therefore must receive 1 x dose of vaccine after COVID19 recovery.

B) BIONTECH Vaccine
B.1 Students aged 5 to 11 years old are considered fully vaccinated if they:

i. HAVE NOT had COVID19 infection and have 2 x doses of vaccine in total.

ii. Are required to have 2 x doses of vaccine but are in the “interval” period for their 2nd dose and intend to get their 2nd dose within 7 days of the interval period lapsing.

iii. HAVE had COVID19 infection and therefore can have one less dose of the vaccine, that is 1 x doses of vaccine in total.

iv. Tested positive with COVID19 infection within 14 days of their first vaccine dose,
therefore do not “qualify” for one less dose and have received 1 x further doses of
vaccine, that is a total of 2 x doses.

Kind regards and have a safe and enjoyable break.

Get Redressed Day!

This Friday, October 14 th is Get Redressed Day at KJS.

Children and staff are invited to wear casual clothes that have been borrowed or upcycled and bring in a small donation to support Redress HK.

We have had a lot of clothes being donated and wish to take this time to thank you for that.

If you haven't had a chance to clean out your closets yet, we are still accepting donations.

Thank you in advance for your support!

KJS Student Council

Clothing Donation (Redress)

Did you know?

170 tonnes of clothing are sent to HK landfills daily!

Dear Parents,

Every piece of clothing thrown away is a huge waste. We know that some people do not have the time to go to various places in HK and donate their clothes, but we have a solution for that. We would like to introduce you to an eco-friendly clothing foundation called Redress.

Redress is a local HK NGO whose mission is to reduce textile waste in Hong Kong. They will take old or used clothing and give them to people in need.

KJS is supporting Redress by setting up a clothing drive during the month of October. In doing this we will be helping Redress with its mission of making HK more sustainable AND we will be making a positive difference!

The process is simple. Your kids bring old or used clothes to school and put them in the boxes placed outside the school gate or the office. Please make sure that all the clothes you donate are clean and are in good condition.

We hope that you understand what a big problem this is, and support your child in creating a brighter, greener future for HK!

Looking forward to your help!

The KJS Student Council
