Newsletter- 11/05/22Kowloon Junior School's latest newsletter is available to read now. Dates for Your Diary03 June Dragon Boat Festival - No school 10 June Year 4 Camp (Day 1) 17 June Year 4 Camp (Day 2) 23 June Year 6 Leaver Assembly Dear KJS Families, Last week, our Battle of the Books team competed in the semi-final round via Zoom. 12 of our wonderful Y5 and Y6 students battled bravely and cleverly against schools such as St. Stephen's College, AISHK, and Nord Anglia. Their hard work in preparing for the tournament served them very well, as they put in a strong team performance. A special thanks must go to those that supported our students on their journey, namely - Ms. Lau, Ms. Lee, Ms. Berube, Ms. MacLennan, and Ms. Knapman. As mentioned last week, Y6 students are transitioning from a process to a product focus as part of the PYP Exhibition journey. Product taster sessions were led by staff members today to support students in deciding how best to share what they have learned. This step is something new at KJS, and I believe that it is a small but powerful addition. I have been involved with the PYP Exhibition every year in some way for more than 20 years, and I believe that, more often than not, we assume that students have the knowledge and skills to effectively share their learning. Like everyone, students don't know what they are unaware of, so, with some support, they may find something that is a better fit for them while, at the same time, learning something new. We will seek feedback from students after the PYP Exhibition Showcase to gather some data around the usefulness of this approach. Kind regards, Dr Jamie Schmitz Principal ESF Relief Grants to Eligible StudentsESF will be offering a new round of relief grants to eligible students, and details will soon be sent to all parents via ESF App and posted at ESF website. Food DriveDear KJS Community , We are the KJS Student Council and in collaboration with some Year 13 KGV students we have organised a food drive for the NGO, Feeding Hong Kong. Feeding HK is a registered charity that started its work in 2011. They aim to educate people about issues related to hunger and food waste. They also carry out many donation activities, such as food drives and bread runs. They take donated food and distribute this to charities, who then give the food to those in need. Currently, more than 800,000 people are living below the poverty line in Hong Kong and are struggling to access nutritious food to eat. In addition, 30% of all waste in Hong Kong is food waste. This is a BIG problem! That is why we want to work with Feeding HK to provide some food for those in need this year. We will be placing boxes outside the school office to collect food items. Students can bring in items from Thursday the 19th May to Friday the 27th of May, students can also dress casually on Friday, 27th of May. (please bring food and donate it to the food drive which goes to Feeding HK!) The suggested items to donate are below:
