As we step into the new year, we are excited about the opportunities and events that await us. It may seem strange, but it's exciting that in just over two weeks, we will be celebrating the Lunar New Year. Preparations for our Chinese assemblies are well underway, and we can't wait to share some of the other exciting activities taking place. There will be a special performance of Shakespeare's The Tempest on Monday, January 13th. This event will be followed by school-wide performances on Wednesday. We encourage the parents of the performers to attend and support our talented students on Monday. The ESF Wide Cross Country event, taking place at KGV on Saturday, January 18th for our older students. We look forward to seeing our students shine in this exciting competition! We are thrilled to announce that a new school website is nearing completion and will be launching after the Chinese New Year break. Our ICT and support staff have put in a tremendous amount of work to make this happen, and we are excited to share this new resource with our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support. Enjoy your (slightly cooler) weekend Mr Gavin MacGregor Principal Library NewsDear KJS Community, We are excited to share some wonderful news following the successful article written by Elvis Xie from 5JO in SCMP Posties Issue 624. We are thrilled to announce that two more KJS students have been published in SCMP Posties Issue 636! Pehr Shah (2SQ) Pehr Shah from 2SQ participated in the HA-HA-HAPPENINGS segment of Posties Weekly, published on December 30th. This fun initiative invites students to write a humorous caption and submit it for publication. I had the pleasure of catching up with Pehr Shah from 2SQ at the end of the school day to ask her about her reaction to having her comments published. With a shy laugh, she shared that she distinctly remembers writing her caption while in India. Her mom, a reporter, encouraged her to write about the picture. "I laughed really hard and couldn't stop when my mom showed me the picture," Pehr said. "After thinking about it for a few minutes, I wrote it down for her to send. My mom encouraged me to 'just try,' and so I did." Pehr's experience highlights the wonderful opportunities available for our students to express their creativity! Natalie Wong (5EG) In Year 5, Elvis Xie's previous experience of being published inspired his peers to submit their own articles to Posties. As the year progressed, the students were completing their unit on "How the World Works," centered around the central idea that "advances in science and technology have enhanced people's understanding of the Earth and its place in the universe." They dedicated several weeks to researching topics related to space, making it the perfect opportunity for Posties' "space" theme. Among the eager students, Natalie Wong (5EG) submitted her article, showcasing her passion and creativity. I surprised Natalie with the fantastic news about her published article. She was very humble and shared her happiness about the recognition. Natalie has a passion for writing and is quite fast at it; she completed her article in just one day, using a piece she had written for class. However, she wished they had published the longer version of her article. When we asked her what message she would like to share with other KJS students, she said, "It doesn't matter what mistakes you make; just keep going. You might need to stop if the paper is wet, though! Haha!” Thank you, Pehr and Natalie, for making us proud! We encourage everyone to submit their writing to Posties using the Google Form link. There's no age limit, and the topics vary from week to week—just check the form for details! News from the PTAHello KJS Community, Welcome back to Term 2 and Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a good break and is refreshed for the new term at KJS. Upcoming Events We have exciting events coming up so mark your Diaries, more details will follow soon. 21 Feb 2025: Bingo Social Night 22 March 2025: The annual School Fair “The Carnival” Raffles In February, we will be sending out raffle ticket booklets for our annual fundraising for the school. This year, the aim is to raise money to update the play areas, and the more we can raise, the better we can make them for our children. More information around this will follow soon, so keep an eye out for it! International Food at KJS We would like to celebrate the diversity of our wonderful community at the coming Fair and what better way than food! This is a shout out to all the amazing chefs out there to get together and form tables of their ethnic cuisine or signature dishes. Last year, our talented Korean mums made the most delicious homemade items that were a super hit at the Fair. This year, we would like to encourage other families to showcase their talents by planning and providing their own favourite foods. Please don't be shy, even one dish that you can provide will be appreciated. Contact Rekha in the PTA Office for any queries or to chat about what you can bring. Nothing is too small and everything is welcome. Except nuts! Get together with your friends and plan what you can bring to the Fair and let's all share your wonderful food. Uniforms from January Please remember that starting from this term, the old uniforms (beige pants, shorts and skorts) will no longer be used at KJS. Only the new navy blue items will be considered as official uniforms. For those families wishing to donate (new style only)uniform items that they are no longer using, please use the unique KJS platform to upcycle them: Online Programme for Uniform Up-Cycling @ KJS!In support of KJS' sustainability ethos, the PTA is delighted to facilitate this ongoing service to our community members. It's as simple as 1,2,3 !
A small voluntary donation to the PTA by the receiving family would be appreciated to support this initiative. We wish all our families a wonderful 2025! Best wishes, The KJS PTA Team. Chess Club Drama Club Clay Club Writing Class Baking Class Student SuccessThank you for sharing your child's achievements with us over the past year. While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student's accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated. That being said, we encourage you to share your child's achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child's accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community's strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students. Disclaimer
