Newsletter- 09/06/21Kowloon Junior School's latest newsletter is available to read now. Dates for Your DiaryMonday 14 June Dragon Boat Festival - No school Wednesday 30 June Last day of school - Half day (finish at 12pm) Thursday 1 July Summer holiday begins! Dear Parents, What a wonderful, wonderful time it is at KJS and what an incredible finish to a tumultuous year. Children in school each day, for most of the day, with their peers, family and friends, learning, playing, creating and achieving. We are cherishing each and every moment with your child being in school. I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr Jamie Schmitz and our Senior Leadership Team today to begin the handover process and to share all that is the KJS Learning Community. Dr Schmitz started the day with the Student Council evidencing his determination and desire to hear directly from students as he transitions into the school. He tells me he was delighted with their passion, depth of knowledge and their evident role in creating a positive learning culture at KJS. Together with the Learnership Team, Dr Schmitz worked to clarify goals, objectives and targets for the year ahead and detailed planning of the first few weeks of school. The meeting left me so reassured that not only will the important improvement work of KJS continue but with Dr Schmitz's passion, knowledge, expertise and energy, that the school is in incredibly good hands going forward. In the next week or two, I am sure our Year 6 children will be sending many communications to families in a variety of forms as they play their part and take action as part of their PYP Exhibition 1. Through my mentoring of seven students, I can tell you that our fine KJS Year 6 students want to make this world a better place through considered and well planned action. Please do all that you can to support them on this voyage of empowerment and discovery as they come to the end of their time at KJS. Kind regards 亲切的问候, सधन्यवाद Neill O'Reilly Principal Distribution of Yearbook (Year 1 to Year 5)This year's yearbook will be distributed through class teachers on Friday 11 June 2021 to Year 1 to Year 5 parents who placed an order and have already paid. Due to the overwhelming response, all copies are sold. Distribution of Refund Cheque and Yearbook (Year 6)All Year 6 students will receive a free copy of this year's yearbook through class teachers on Friday 11 June 2021. For Year 6 parents who have already submitted an online request for a refund of yearly fee balance through the Payment System before the deadline - 31 May 2021, a crossed cheque will be distributed to their children on the same day, i.e. Friday 11 June 2021. Please remind your child to safe-keep the cheque and pass it to you as soon as they see you after school. This will be another great chance to give them the responsibility and be accountable. Library NewsDear Parents, We hope your children have enjoyed borrowing books home. As we approach the end of the school year, we kindly ask that all library books are returned to the library by this Friday 11 June. For any outstanding books not returned, we will be sending overdue notices to you. Parents can contact Ms. Lau for issuance of notices for replacement of books if they are unable to locate them. For summer reading, our Library Team suggests students to visit their local libraries and get a library card. This is especially useful for students entering Year 6 as HK public cards give them access to various online databases. Of course, students can continue reading books online through Wheelers, our digital library. EPIC will continue to be available during school hours (8am-3pm) and should you wish to read it outside that time, a subscription is required. This is optional for families to join. You can always go on to our KJS Virtual Library for some Fun and Useful Links for more ebook options as well. Please contact Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk should you have any questions. Student SuccessThe celebration of student success will channel to our Facebook page. You can find the school's Facebook here. Please keep the photos and stories coming of our children shooting the AAROW's of Success! Disclaimer:
