I have, once again, been highly encouraged by the focused and energetic way in which our students and staff have engaged in and shared their learning. It was wonderful to be able to begin offering after school sports opportunities to our students this week. This is the first phase of our return to extra and co-curricular activities. We are working hard to make arrangements to offer music instruction in the near future, and we will look to expand our offerings beyond sports and music after the October break. Please rest assured that we are collaborating with ESF Centre colleagues and the EDB to ensure that we are following safety guidelines appropriately. Smart watches have become far more commonplace over the last few years, and we appreciate that some parents want their children to wear them for contact reasons. Please note that smart watches are not permitted to be worn during the school day so, if you would like your child to wear one, then please encourage him/her to place it in his/her school bag, locker, or hand it in and collect it from the classroom teacher. Finally, thank you to all of you for taking the time to sign up for our You Tell Us Conferences. These meetings provide us with an opportunity to listen closely to you so that we can learn more about your children. Relationships built on trust and understanding are vital for optimal learning, so we value your efforts in collaborating with us. Kind regards, Dr Jamie Schmitz Acting Principal Library NewsDear Parents, It's been another busy week here at the library. Students have been learning how to locate books in the library through recognizing different signage and by understanding how to locate books through Orbit. We recognize that Parents may also want to learn more about what the library has to offer and so we are organizing an upcoming Parent workshop. Please save the date and more information will be following. Reading Photos We are collecting reading photos of students with their favourite books to decorate the walls of our library and around the school. Thank you to some Parents who have already sent them in. Here is a link to some of the pictures we've received so far but we need more! Please share them with us by emailing them to Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk. Upon receipt, Ms. Lau will email you back. Due to the number of photos, it may take a few days to get back. After school writing club Thank you for your great response and feedback on our after school writing club. Our Wednesday class for Years 3 & 4 is now full! After feedback from some Year 5 & 6 Parents, we will be changing the Year 5 & 6 session to Thursdays from 4-5pm. Please see the flyer for more details about the club and the updated schedule. Here is the link. We are looking forward to seeing your published books in 12 weeks! SCMP Posties Student Reading Program Due to the popularity of SCMP Young Post, some parents have emailed and asked for a newspaper that would be more suitable for our younger students in lower grades. As such, we would like to introduce SCMP Posties. Posties is a weekly entertainment newspaper and e-copies will be issued every Wednesday. Posties aim to provide fun facts, DIY activities, fascinating science, general knowledge feature and content about current affairs. Language and content is tailored to engage even our youngest readers. Here are the dates for upcoming issues that start in October: If interested, please complete this Google Form by September 17th, 2021. Payment methods are linked in the form. Please see link to flyer for more details on Young Post. How to Subscribe to EPIC for Parents EPIC is a digital platform where students can read over 40,000 books, audiobooks, and videos. If parents want to access EPIC after school, a subscription is required for families. This year, emails will not be sent home to parents to subscribe. Instead, parents can follow the slideshow to learn how to connect to their child's school account. Happy Reading everyone! If you have any questions, please email our library team at library@kjs.edu.hk. Y6 to Y7 Transfer ApplicationThis is an important notice to all Y6 parents. Referring to the message from CEO Mrs Belinda Greer, there will be an important change to the Y6 to Y7 transfer this year. If you wish your child to transfer to an ESF secondary school, you are required to submit a transfer application for Year 7 (available only on Gateway) during the period Wednesday 1 September- Friday 17 September 2021 Starting with this year's Y6 allocation for Y7, ESF will process and allocate according to an ‘associated secondary school' for Y7 placement. The associated secondary school for KJS is King George V School (KGV). This means ALL KJS Y6 children will transition to KGV for Y7 for the 2022/2023 school year. Allocation for secondary school will be by ‘associated secondary school' and NOT determined by the residential address. However, ESF also recognises this is the first year of this model, and ESF will grandfather all Y6 students who wish to transfer according to their residential zoned address. This means a family may choose to opt out by indicating ‘yes' when completing their Y7 transfer form. Should families wish to opt out and process your child's Y7 transition by zone, it will be according to current residential address at the time of application; change of residential address following submission of application and prior to entry to Year 7 will not be considered. If you need any clarifications, please contact the KJS school office or the ESF Secondary School Admissions Team at secondary.admissions@esfcentre.edu.hk.
