Acting Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

Last Friday saw our KJS Football Team participate in a full-day tournament involving many ESF and non-ESF schools. As we are all too aware, this sort of experience has been sorely missing for our students over the past few years, so it was literally a celebration as well as a competition. Our team, coached skillfully by Mr. Fay and Mr. Riddell, performed strongly throughout the day, with the highlight being the tenacity and resilience demonstrated by all of our players. We were also fortunate enough to be able to send out Y4 football players to a Festival of Football on Tuesday, which, again, was a positive and character-building experience for all.

Speaking of sports, we will be holding Athletics Days for our students in Y3 to Y6 next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Perth Street Sports Ground. This will be a great opportunity for our students to connect with one another, build confidence in a supportive setting, and have fun by learning through doing. At this stage, the weather forecast looks favourable, so it will be an energising experience for our students to spend time outdoors.

In anticipation of many of you wanting to make summer plans in the near future, I can confirm that the first day for students of the 2023-2024 school year will be 16/8/23. The full calendar will be published at a later date, however I thought that it would be useful to share this piece of information with you as soon as possible.

Triple P Parent Programme

Dear Parents,

The second Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme) seminar will be held tomorrow (8th December) by Zoom at 1:00pm- 1:45pm. The topic would be Raising Confident, Competent Children. We successfully ran the session last year and you are welcome to attend again should you wish to; please note the content is the same.  This is an Australian internationally acclaimed program and will be facilitated by Carolyn Aukafolau from our Learning Enhancement Team.  At KJS we value the partnership that we have with parents and how we can develop this not only to support the wellbeing of students but also you, our parent community.

The seminars suggest strategies to promote positive, caring relationships between parents and children which help to develop effective management strategies for dealing with a variety of common developmental issues and childhood behavioural concerns.  You will get the opportunity to enhance your knowledge skills and confidence to support your child in a variety of ways and you will learn how to use positive parenting strategies to encourage children to learn the skills and competencies they need to promote their health, development and wellbeing.  This aligns with many of the IB learner profiles which are our school values.

Raising Confident, Competent Children - 8 Dec 2022 (1:00pm to 1:45pm)

Play Equipment Donation Drive

Dear KJS Parents,

We are hosting a Play Equipment Donation Drive where students can bring in some play equipment from home that they do not play with anymore and can make space for their Christmas gifts!

This drive is being hosted because we have collected feedback from students throughout our school who have said they would like to see a wider selection of outdoor equipment, and we want to be sustainable by reducing, reusing and recycling items!

This donation will be held from Monday, 12th of December to the Friday, 16th of December, the last week of Term 2. The collection boxes will be located next to the office next to the PTA on the ground floor.

Any donated equipment has to be in good usable condition and durable to certain weather such as rain etc. The items that you can donate in the Play Equipment Drive can be outdoor balls, bats, hula-hoops or bean bags.

We ask that you do not donate soft toys, non-weather durable items, sticky toys, dangerous items, books or anything broken. Students can bring in as much equipment as they want.

We hope that your action can make KJS a greener school by donating to our drive!

Year 4 (12pm - 2pm)

Wednesday, 14 December 2022

Year 5 (9am - 11am)

Year 6 (12pm - 2pm)

Students will need to come to school in their PE kit with their water bottle and an easy to eat, healthy snack (no sweets or sugary drinks please).

Whilst this is great news for the students unfortunately due to restrictions on numbers at the venue; this year we will not be able to have parent spectators.

Our year 1 and 2 students will have their own athletics days after the Christmas break.
