Running & Basketball Clubs 4Half Term Fun – ESF Sports 5School Photographs 6ESF Beach Clean Ups 7IMPORTANT DATES 8Message from Head of SchoolDear All, I was thankful for the rain this weekend as it seems to have washed away some of last week's dreadful pollution. I'm now hoping that this week we will have brighter cleaner skies. On Thursday it is both Hong Kong Dress Casual day and international ‘Outside Classroom' day. All students are invited to bring in $20 in order to wear their own clothes instead of their uniform. Please note that most classes will be spending some time learning outside in addition to their usual playtimes so will definitely need to bring a hat with them. All money collected for Dress Casual day will go to Hong Kong Community Chest who support people in need across Hong Kong. Thanks to all the people who have ‘liked' our Facebook page so far. We are using this to try and give you a flavour of some of the wonderful things that happen in and around KJS every day. This half term seems to have flown by. I wish you a wonderful week off next week and look forward to seeing all the children back on Tuesday 18th October. Warmest regards Karen Thomas PTA Quiz NightWith just a few tickets left, excitement is building for the Quiz Night on Friday 4th November are many great prizes to be won which are suitable for all the family. The PTA will be providing a light buffet as part of the ticket price. We will also be running a bar. There is no need to form a full team; all we need is a mix of kids and adults. We promise you an evening of laughter and good company! Tickets are available from the PTA office. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 -11:00 am. Or complete and return the slip below together with a cheque made payable to Kowloon Junior School PTA Ltd before 14 October 2016. Each ticket (adult & child) $100 Per Participant and $70 Per Audience. Children under 5 years old: Free of charge A message for the KJS Zero Waste TeamThe KJS Green Team's 'Zero Waste' Team has found out that 62 Ziploc bags were thrown away in 1 class for a whole day! Plastic takes about a lifetime to decompose. We advise parents and helpers to put snacks and lunches in reusable containers. We also advise parents and helpers not to pack juices for school, because it is unhealthy and the packaging takes so long to decompose. Instead, we can drink water from reusable and refillable bottles. So please bring containers and bottles that are reusable and refillable to school every day. Reported by Rhin Choe (6RB) Choose Health ! Running and Basketball ClubsKJS RUNNING CLUB for Year 5 and 6 students. Sign up for the popular KJS running club for Year 5 and 6 starts in school this week. Students have been asked to sign up themselves if they are interested in running this year. The details of the clubs are as follows. Run club will begin after the October break (October 19th) on Wednesdays from 3 - 4:15pm. We will run on the KGV field this year and return back to KJS at 4:15pm. Arrangements must be made for your childs safe return home from KJS at 4:15pm. Y6 INTER-HOUSE MIXED BASKETBALL The much anticipated Y6 inter-house mixed basketball begins next week. St. Andrews Eagles are determined to defend their title. Group games will be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime. Our fantastic house captains have organised their squads and their teams are raring to go. Players have been instructed to wear their PE kit on those days, ready to play. The finals will be held the first week back after the October break. Please remember that Netball and Basketball clubs are starting straight after the holiday for those children who signed up. Y4 Netball beginning Tuesday, October 18th from 3-4pm Y5 Basketball beginning Wednesday, October 19th from 3-4pm Half Term Fun - ESF SportsPlease click HERE to see the range of sports clubs available during the half term holiday! School PhotographsPlease find below the photograph schedule after term break for your reference:
All children should wear school uniform (not PE Kit) on the day of their photograph. It is important to remember that if they have PE or Games on the same day they will have to change at school. On Friday 21 October, we will have a whole school photograph in the playground. All students must wear school uniform (not PE kit) for the whole school photograph. If your child has missed their assigned session please ask him/her to check with the class teacher so that we can find a time for their individual photograph to be taken. Please remember that all children should be wearing the correct school uniform as made available in the PTA shop. ESF Beach Clean UpsPlease see below details of ESF's beach clean up days: Tue, 11 October (Term Break) – Clearwater Bay Beach (2) and Sheung Sze Wan Beach by Clearwater Bay area. Mon, 17 October (CPD Day) – Gemini Beach by Tsuen Wan area Thu, 15 December (Term Break) – Gemini Beach by Tsuen Wan area While we will be cleaning up two beaches on 11 Oct, they currently are tolerating a moderate level of pollution. We therefore propose ten participants to help clean-up these two beaches. As for Gemini Beach on 17 Oct, this beach is where the most amount of help is needed. Last year we collected over 60 bags of garbage and this year we can easily match this judging by the look of the beach. We can use as many volunteers as we can gather, from teachers, EA, support staff to students.
