The conferences allow the children to talk you through their learning. You are invited to register to spend at least an hour in school with your child, starting in their classroom and then moving to Mandarin, Music and PE. Registration will be open on Gateway from 9am tomorrow. (Click here for the Booking User Guide) The school fair is now less than 2 weeks away. Our PTA, teachers and volunteers have been very busy getting everything ready for the biggest event of the KJS year. Thank you to parents who have already contacted us to volunteer to help out before and during the school fair. If you want to get involved as a volunteer, and haven't yet contacted us, please fill out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/FM3d4nINl8GMmyFp1 9 All stalls at the School Fair will be paid through coupons. The PTA will be sending out coupon order forms with your child today. Early bird buyers can get an additional $20 for every purchase of $200 if you purchase before noon time Friday 17 March. Please order in advance to avoid queues on the day. Meanwhile, teachers and students are conducting their research and designing their year group game stalls according to their continent themes: Y1- Antartica, Y2- Australia, Y3- North America, Y4- South America, Y5- Europe, Y6/Mandarin- Asia, PTA - Africa You can vote for your favorite year group game stall during the school fair! More info to follow. The volunteers for the parents' international food fair are trying their very best, planning their food and stalls to win your vote to be the favorite food stall this year! Will our Filipino stall be able to defend their title this year? Our performance line up looks amazing: Our KJS community choir consists of over 60 teachers, support staff and parents who will kick off the fair at 11:30, followed by yoga, dance, a Taekwondo display and performances by the HK Institute of Rope Skipping. The HK Institute of Rope Skipping won 18+ individual and team championship titles in the 8th Asian Rope Skipping Championships, breaking a world record in 4x45 double speed relay representing Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association, China. We also have an exciting line up of our own stars in the KJS variety show, our KJS choir and different ensemble groups plus the return of the "No Direction" teacher band! We have ESF sports running basket ball games and the Kowloon Cobras teaching us some Australian Rules Football tricks in the gym. Free yoga and rope skipping sessions for everyone who is interested too. More details next week! The 2017 school fair is not to be missed! We have an amazing space on the 4th floor where our multi-media centre, art room and science/baking room is. We are developing the area in order to have a dedicated space for our students to plan, design, make, create and tinker! To get us started we are proposing a “Ziploc Challenge” to our student and parent community. To meet the challenge all children need to fill a large ziploc bag with items that can be used to design, make, create and tinker with! If your amazing items do not fit in a ziploc bag...not to worry, we want them as well! Here are some items we are hoping to collect:
Please send your donations in anytime and drop them in the bins, just outside the office. For larger items that might need collecting from the bus, please email Mrs. Doucette and we will come pick them up for your child. Maths WeekKJS Maths week will run from 13th to 17th March with the main events happening on pi π day Tuesday 14th March. On that day we are asking the whole school community to dress in something mathematical. There will be prizes for the most creative costumes. On π day, each Year group will be hosting a special mathematical event to celebrate the world of Maths. Check your year group newsletter for details. This year we are running a competition for parents and students on the theme 'Maths in the real world'. We would like students and parents to make a short video of no more than 30 seconds in length to show how they use Maths at home or at work. For example it could be using maths at work in a laboratory or office. It could be using maths at home to cook delicious food or re-decorate a room. We will use these clips to create a video of our mathematical KJS community with prizes awarded for the best videos. Please drop your 30 second videos into the google folder with this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B3tm2oJxZ5kVUWhBbmdORkt4bE0?usp=sharing If you encounter uploading problems, please email Mr Anderson: anderp2@kjs.hk 10 We hope you will all enjoy getting involved in the KJS Maths week and you can keep up to date by accessing the KJS Maths website: http://kjsmaths.weebly.com/ Y6 Parent InvitationY6 parents are invited to a coffee morning at 8.45 on 20th March to learn more about the upcoming PYP Exhibition. The Exhibition is the culmination of the six years that the children have spent working within the PYP framework and is an extremely important process. As we know some parents will be unable to attend we will make sure the key points from the presentation are shared with you. Student ActionTaking action is one of the five essential elements of the Primary Years Program. We are always on the look out for the action that children take at home, inspired by their learning in school. The photos below show what Otto made following the work about forces in Y2 recently. Excellent action, Otto! Last week Trevor performed a solo violin piece at the Orbis fundraising carnival. He was very proud of himself as this was his first public solo performance. His performance helped to raise funds for providing eye examinations and treatments for people in the developing countries. Trevor was happy to be able to help others with his music and is looking forward to more performances and charity involvement in the future! STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTI was delighted to hear that Emmy won first prize in an under 6 years piano competition last week in the First Education: Hong Kong Students Music Competition 2017. Great work Emmy! Joshua participated in HKFC U7 team at the Valley Fort Mini Rugby Festival last week. He tried his best , made some good tackles and, most importantly had a good time! Very well done Joshua! Shaivi took part in HSS the Hindu Sports Day at Stanley Ho sports stadium this weekend, winning a gold medal in the 5-9 category as well as a silver in the long run. I was pleased to hear that Shaivi led a team for various activities and was awarded ‘best captain' and ‘best team' awards in the competition. Great to hear about these developing leadership skills Shaivi!
