It was truly a magnificent event! The performances from all the children across all ESF schools were magical. A big thank you to Mrs. Swett for all her hard work in supporting the children and preparing them for the event, as well as to Mr. Wong for his help on the very busy day. On Thursday, KJS hosted the Battle of the Books competition. A huge well done to the KJS team! Despite tough competition from other ESF and Hong Kong schools, they won the semi-final and are now onto the finals. A special thanks to Ms. Lau from the library and the KJS staff for their support during the event. A big thank you to all parents who attended our 3-way conferences over the last two days. We hope you found it useful and gained a good understanding of the excellent progress the students have made this year. Your partnership and support are greatly appreciated. Have a lovely weekend. Mr Gavin MacGregor Principal KJS TimesDear KJS Community, Does your child have a unique hobby? Have they been exploring new activities during the weekends? Well, we're highlighting students at KJS who have been doing just that. This is an opportunity for your child to be featured in the KJS Times Hobbies Padlet! Simply click on this link, upload a photo of your child participating in their chosen hobby and add a caption that gives some more details. Kindly be aware that all readers of the KJS Times will have access to your child's post. Please assist your children in uploading their photos to the Padlet if they need help. We look forward to inspiring our whole school community to try new experiences! Kind regards, The KJS Times News Team Message on Behalf of Evelyn Chan in Y6 for PYPXPYPX KJS May Nature's Snapshot Invitation to Participate in the PYPX Climate Change & Nature Snapshot Competition Dear Parents of KJS, I hope this message finds you and your family well. My name is Evelyn Chan from class 6AC, and I am excited to share with you a project I am working on for the PYPX exhibition. The focus of my project is on Climate Change and Nature Around Us, a theme that I am deeply passionate about. As part of my action for this exhibition, I am organizing a competition for students in years 1-6. The essence of this competition is to promote awareness and understanding of the importance of nature in our lives through the art of snapshotting. Students in Y1-6 who are interested will be given a class login where they can upload ‘snapshots' of different fauna and flora that they see around the KJS area. These photos are uploaded to the interactive website (Web Page Link) which tracks the different fauna and flora and how it develops over the years. It's a great opportunity for our young learners to connect with the environment and capture the beauty and significance of nature that surrounds us. The competition is extended to our whole school community and parents can get involved and help their child's year group by downloading the 'inaturalist' app (available on the app store and google play) onto your personal device, login using the details relevant for your child's year level (see the table below). You can then take and upload photos during drop off or pick up. All snapshots must be taken in the immediate surroundings of our school between the 7th and 10th of May. Competition Details: Warm regards, Evelyn Chan 6AC News from the PTADear KJS Community, It's been great to see so many families in and out of the school yesterday and today for the 3 Way Conferences. We would like to remind families of the coming events that have been planned. Caregivers Appreciation Day 16 May 2024 We are looking forward to hosting the Caregivers Appreciation Day where the PTA will sponsor a morning gathering for all those wonderful people who help look after your children. They may be domestic helpers, parents, grandparents or other family members, all of whom will be welcome to come join us to celebrate all that they do. We request parents to fill in this Google Form for our planning purposes and we really hope that many special caregivers will attend this. It will take place in the Hall from 8:30 am - 10:00 am with a show of appreciation, a special presentation from Ms Gillian Hadley, gifts and refreshments. Lonnie Bedwell Visits KJS 29 May 2024 KJS PTA is very proud to sponsor Lonnie Bedwell's talk at KJS on 29 May to some of our students. Lonnie Bedwell is the first totally blind climber to summit Mt Everest. He is also a motivational speaker, author, extreme adventure athlete and ex US navy veteran. Lonnie made a connection with a KJS parent last year at the Mt Everest base camp and addressed some of our students via Zoom in June 2023. So inspiring was he that we have decided to bring him to Hong Kong from America to talk to schools and corporations during his stay here. Lonnie will be talking to our Y3-6 students on Wednesday 29 May and it would be so good for the children to have a little knowledge about him before the talk. If you get a chance, please sit and read all about him on his website, Lonnie Bedwell . Friday 31 May New Year 1 Parents will be visiting KJS with their children to meet their new classmates and teachers. The PTA will be there to support their entry into KJS. We will also be introducing a new friend of KJS on that day, watch this space… As always, we welcome parental involvement in our projects, feel free to contact us: PTA Office T: 3765-8709 PTA Email: pta@kjs.edu.hk PTA Whatsapp: 6211-4154 Have a good weekend ahead! The KJS PTA Team. Student SuccessThank you for sharing your child's achievements with us over the past year. While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student's accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated. That being said, we encourage you to share your child's achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child's accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best. We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community's strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students. Disclaimer
