Newsletter- 02/13/17Kowloon Junior School's latest newsletter is available to read now. Dear All, I hope you have had the opportunity to get out and about with your children and enjoy some of the cooler weather that we are enjoying at the moment. Last week I had quite a few conversations with parents who feel like they are constantly going into battle with their children about the amount of screen time they demand. My rule of thumb is that if you are worried that your children are spending too much time looking at a screen then they probably are. At KJS we promote the concept of balance so the question parents need to consider is whether your children are also getting enough time to socialise with other children, play independently, talk and have fun with you, read, exercise, be outside, be creative and rest. Help your child to analyze the time they spend within each of these categories and try to draw conclusions together. Remember that as parents we are the most influential role models on our children – if they see us attached to a screen all the time it stands to reason they will expect to do the same. Good luck! For those who wish to purchase a DVD of the Annie Jr show we have a professional recording for families to purchase at a cost of $100. This price give you two shows, featuring both casts. To order please send a cheque for the exact amount to KJSPTA Ltd. All cheques should be sent in an envelope which must have the following information on it: Child's name: Child's class: Amount of DVDs ordered: Total amount: The recording will be shown in school throughout the week should you wish to see the quality before buying. Please note that envelopes which do not have the required information can not be processed. Wishing you a wonderful week. Our school fair is always a time of great excitement because of the finals of the KJS Talent Show! Should your child wish to audition the sign up sheet can be accessed here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSceoTQ8a6fc7BpuFWyF3ee3lnBfSLgjx99JpT0K8IQnfalEIQ/viewform Please note there should only be one parent contact shared per group audition. Auditions will be held in the next few weeks. STUDENT ACTIONDuring Chinese New Year Avery volunteered at the LAP cat shelter. Besides cleaning and feeding, the cats need volunteers to help them socialize and become comfortable with humans. Avery says the cats need our help because "some of these cats have just been thrown out on the street. They had to fight for food when living on the streets and have been injured. I felt sorry to see cats that are sick and are scared.” Avery would like to spread the message that there are many wonderful cats waiting for a loving home at the shelter, so if you are looking to get a pet cat please adopt one instead of buying from a pet shop. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTThis weekend Chase participated in a swimming competition achieving an amazing time in his 50m backstroke and freestyle races – even though it was his very first time joining a swim competition.
