The day was facilitated by the wonderful team at KJS with the main resource for the day being Professor Jo Boaler from Stanford University and her team at youcubed. A large number of our staff have now completed her online course “Mathematical Mindsets” During May we will be sharing some of the key information covered at our CPD day that you might find helpful in order to support your children to become a successful mathematician. The way we teach and learn in maths has changed in recent years and continues to evolve as brain research influences our understanding of how children best learn maths. Each week we invite you to take just 10 minutes of your time to watch a video or review a reading as we work toward a shared understanding of what ‘successful maths' is at KJS. Our introduction to Maths in 2018 starts with 4 Boosting messages. This eight minute clip gives you a taster of the information to come over the weeks ahead and tells us:
In the weeks ahead we will go into more detail regarding these ideas. Please take 10 minutes, watch the clips and then we would love to have your views! Feel free to email if you have questions, challenges etc. The team would be more than happy to discuss maths learning further with parents who are interested.
