Principal’s Message
Dear Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you are beginning to enjoy this festive season.
Firstly, I would like to express a huge thanks to all the families who have purchased tickets for the upcoming PTA Winter Fayre this evening. Your support is greatly appreciated, and we are looking forward to a fun-filled evening of festivities and excitement. Thankyou of course to the PTA and the huge number of parent volunteers and staff involved.
I would also like to take a moment to celebrate the fantastic performance by our Theatre Club on Wednesday. They put on an incredible show titled “A Kid’s Life!” for families after school. The talent and dedication displayed by our students was remarkable, and they should all be immensely proud of their efforts. A huge thanks to Ms Jackson and Ms Glover for putting together the performance.
In addition to the amazing performance, our footballers from Years 5 and 6 represented our school at a HKPSSA Football tournament today in Tseung Kwan O. They exhibited great sportsmanship and teamwork, making us all incredibly proud.
In other news, I am pleased to inform you that with support from the ESF central team, the process has begun to update our school website. The aim of the website is two fold. One to market and celebrate our wonderful school to prospective families, with the other aspect a much more detailed communication and information sharing area for our current families. Part of the process may involve some parent voice, I will of course update you as to how this will work, when we are at that stage.
Finally, I wanted to again express my gratitude for the continued support and partnership between our school and our families. I know all the staff here at KJS value your commitment and are grateful to have such wonderful families in our school community.
We look forward to seeing you at the PTA Winter Fayre this evening!
Warm regards,
Mr Gavin MacGregor
Principal

Executive Function and Child Development
This topic is part of the series of presentations promoting positive wellbeing in children.
Have you ever wondered how your child’s brain works? Why do they think and act in a certain way? Our brain is a complex and intricate system that governs every aspect of our bodily functions, movements, thoughts, reflexes and sensations. Importantly, our brain plays a significant role in our everyday functioning, interaction with our environment as well as regulating our impulses and emotions.
Executive function is a key set of skills and mental processes that helps us govern our daily life. The essential executive functioning skills are planning, organising, emotional regulation, self monitoring, focus and memory. These specific skills complement each other and work in concert to help us perform our tasks and achieve our goals.
Goal: This talk will provide an overview of how executive function works and its relevance to learning, problem solving, social interaction, managing stress and emotions.

Athletics Days, 2023
Dear Parents,
This year all our students will participate in Athletics Days the last week of this term on the following dates;
The Athletics Days will be held on the Perth Street Sports Ground. All children should come to school as usual on that day. They will then walk together from school to the Perth Street Sports Ground with their teachers.
Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit and school hat. Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle and an easy to eat snack for Sports Day.
All parents are invited to come along and watch their children take part in this fun event. The sports ground, located behind the Perth Street site, can be accessed at Shek Ku Street, see map below.
We look forward to seeing you there.

Student Success
Thank you for sharing your child’s achievements with us over the past year.
While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student’s accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated.
That being said, we encourage you to share your child’s achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child’s accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community’s strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students.
