Principal’s Message
Dear KJS families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
We are excited to welcome everyone to the PTA Winter Fair this evening! This event promises to be a delightful experience for families and friends, with a variety of activities, games, and a cinema experience! It’s a great opportunity to connect with other families, enjoy some festive fun, and support our school community. We look forward to seeing you there.
On Wednesday, the ESF media team visited KJS to film a new video tour of our campus that showcases our school environment and our wonderful students. The weather was perfect, and all the students involved did an amazing job. We can’t wait to share the final video with you, along with our new website, which we hope to launch around Chinese New Year.
A special shout-out goes to our netball teams that participated in the tournament this week! Their amazing defensive skills and teamwork were commendable, and they represented our school really well. We are proud of their efforts.
Next week, our Year 6 students will be heading off to camp next week! The excitement is palpable as they prepare for this wonderful adventure. The weather looks perfect for outdoor activities, and I am sure the children will have a fantastic time exploring nature, building friendships, and creating lasting memories.
Have a good weekend.
Mr Gavin MacGregor
Principal
Collection of Lost Book Replacement Fees
Throughout the year, we issue invoices to parents for school-based fees, e.g. camp fees, dental care service fees, etc, via the ESF Payment System. For students who have lost library books or home reading books, their parents will receive invoices for the replacement fees after receiving notifications from our Library Team. The School Council has endorsed the arrangement below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school at finance@kjs.edu.hk.
Athletics Day
This year all our students will participate in Athletics Days the last week of this term on the following dates;
The Athletics Days will be held on the Perth Street Sports Ground. All children should come to school as usual on that day. All students will walk together from school to the Perth Street Sports Ground with their teachers.
Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit and school hat. Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle and an easy to eat snack for the Day.
All parents are invited to come along and watch their children take part in this fun event. The sports ground, located behind the Perth Street site, can be accessed at Shek Ku Street, see map below.

Student Council Message
Dear KJS Community,
We have written this newsletter to talk to you about how to support Catherine’s Puppies. Catherine’s Puppies is a shelter and adoption centre for stray dogs based in Sai Kung. The Student Council visited the adoption centre last week to find out more about their work in helping abandoned dogs across Hong Kong.
From November 25th to December 4th, we want our KJS community to donate long socks that are no longer used and balls that are soft and bouncy (around the size of a tennis ball) so we can make recycled dog toys. Please do not buy new socks or balls because we are trying to be more sustainable!
You can also donate dog toys you don’t use anymore, but they need to be washed if you want to donate them to prevent the spread of harmful bacteria to dogs.
We are also collecting donations, as we want to help Catherine vaccinate every puppy that is given to her and this costs over $2000 per dog. This can add up to thousands of dollars every month!
You can help by donating a minimum of $20 on Wednesday, 4th of December which will be our Dress Casual Day where students can dress up as their favourite animal!
Finally, we also have a festive art competition to celebrate the wonderful work of Catherine’s Puppies! The competition is open to ALL students at KJS and starts on Monday, 25th November and closes on Wednesday, 4th December. The collection box for entries will be located in the ground floor School Office.
Rules of the Competition:
- Create a DOG inspired piece of FESTIVE art!
- You can draw, colour, paint, create on an app – Be creative
- Your entry should be A3 or A4 size (landscape of portrait)
- The artwork should be the work of the child who is entering!
- The name and class of the child entering should be clearly visible on the back of their artwork
The winning entry will be used by Catherine’s Puppies on their social media pages over the festive season. It will also be featured on the front page of The KJS Times on Friday, 6th December where the winner will be announced!
We really appreciate your support in taking action for a worthy cause.
Kind regards,
Remy, Tanya and Bitz from the 2024-2025 Student Council
News from the PTA
Hello KJS Community,
Today’s the day for our Winter Festival and by the time you read this, we will be enjoying the whole event (or maybe it’s over by now…)
Lonnie Bedwell’s next adventure with KJS Drake the Dragon!
We are very excited to announce that Lonnie Bedwell, who presented to KJS in May 2024, has started his Antarctica adventure. Year 4, 5 & 6 students who attended Lonnie’s presentation last year, will recall that Antarctica was the next step in Lonnie’s quest to climb the tallest mountain on each of the 7 continents and ski to both the North and South Poles.
Lonnie landed at Union Glacier Station on Antarctica earlier this week. His climb of Antartica’s Vinson Massif (4,892 meter tall) near Union Glacier has already started!
After the climb of approximately 1 week, Lonnie will endure 2 to 3 weeks to ski to the South Pole!
KJS students will be able to follow along!
– A real-time satellite GPS will relay Lonnie’s location to his website: https://www.sightlesssummits.com/ just click on the top banner to “Follow the Antarctica Expedition”.
– A screen at the main office window will also display his location website, along with some Antarctica info.
– If all goes well, there may be an opportunity for KJS students to have a Zoom call with Lonnie at the South Pole, including a surprise with KJS’s Drake the Dragon!

Student Success
Thank you for sharing your child’s achievements with us over the past year.
While individual achievements are undoubtedly significant and provide a source of pride for both the student and their family, sharing every student’s accomplishments on our social media channels is no longer feasible. Our intention is to create an inclusive environment where all students, regardless of their individual accomplishments, feel valued and celebrated.
That being said, we encourage you to share your child’s achievements with their teacher and peers, as well as within your personal social media networks. This way, your child’s accomplishments can be recognized and celebrated by those who know them best.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic educational landscape. Our school community’s strength lies in our collective efforts to celebrate the diverse talents, achievements, and experiences of all our students.
