Unit of Inquiry
Thanks to all the parents who came along to our Mother Tongue session this week. What a great turnout! The children now have a much better understanding of the tricky words connected with our Unit. Classes are continuing to discuss population and environmental changes in Hong Kong. We will be visiting the History Museum soon, please look out for more details and a request for parent helpers.
Maths
Over the last few months teachers have been using open ended maths tasks created by Australian mathematics expert Pete Sullivan. This week, KJS has been lucky enough to have Pete come into school to work with different classes and to conduct a workshop with the teachers. Pete taught a lesson to 3M with all the Year 3 teachers observing. The teachers are excited to teach the same lesson in their own classes next week.
Literacy
Work is continuing around the text type expositions, with children forming arguments on subjects such as “Should children be taught to swim at school?”, and “Should we wear hats in the playground?” In reading, we are working on inferring, that is, reading between the lines, and looking for clues in the text to work out the author’s meaning.
